The borough of Lewisham used to count a large number of cinemas but sadly all have now been closed down, transformed or destroyed. The closest screens, in Greenwich, Peckham or Beckenham, are not easily accessible. However, a survey that we carried out showed that there was a strong demand for a local, regular cinema venue. Founded in 2008 and run by volunteers, the Brockley Jack Film Club, part of the Brockley Jack Theatre, aims to fill the void by offering a quality, affordable and enjoyable cinema experience to the local population, at least once a month between September and July. In addition to classic and foreign cinema, the programme includes thought-provoking and less well known films. The club also showcases short films made by local film-makers. Each screening is open to members and non-members.

Here are some comments we received in the first year:

“First time here – loved it and the pub. Will be joining soon. Thank you!”

“Great night, pleased I could finally make it. Look forward to next season. Thanks.”

“Great to see a Lewisham film.”

Like most film societies, films are played on DVD or blu-ray and projected on a 3.5×2.4 meter screen using a high quality projector. The theatre boasts cinema-style raked seating and is equipped with a multi-speaker surround sound system.

The venue is adjacent to the Brockley Jack Pub. Drinks purchased from the bar can be taken into the screening.

The Brockley Jack Theatre is also fully accessible for wheelchair users. Please call or email us if you require any assistance.
